Cyst caused by Enchinococcus granulosus - tapeworm
Aetiology
- Tapeworm is endemic in: Eastern Europe, Central America, South America, Middle East, North Africa
Pathophysiology
- Patients may present with disseminated disease, or erosion of cyst into adjacent structures and vessels (IVC)
Investigations
- Serology - detection of anti-Echinococcus antibodies
Management
- Surgery - cystectomy
- Albendazole
- Percutaneous drainage
