Inability to urinate, with increasing pain
Aetiology
- Complication of BPH
- Aetiology poorly understood - prostate infection, bladder overdistension, excessive fluid intake, alcohol, prostatic infaction
- Can be separated into two categories:
- Spontaneous
- Precipitated - non-prostate related surgery, catheterization or urethral instrumentation, anaethesia, medication with sympathomimetic or anticholinergic effects
