Obstruction to urine flow downstream results in hydrostatic dilation of the renal pelvis and calyces
Pathophysiology
- Back pressure (any obstruction, stone, tumour) → collecting system continues to dilate and renal parenchyma becomes atrophic
Management
- Removal of obstruction and drainage of accumulated urine
